I like the setting on the first picture you shown here (DFocus and DZoom) but I think I need a side rail (the silver rods?) and a cheese plate(?) in the bottom with a quick release plate under it to mount on a tripod? Am I correct? Where is the best place to find those to buy?

Thanks,

"Shotgun" doesn't mean "ok to use far away". Mounted on the camera is the worst place for a mic. That's why we ave boml ops to hold the mic close to the speaker's mouth.

• No I wasn't outside, but if a mic sounds better here, it will sound better outside. I did do a side rejection test, which gives you the information you need.

• All the mics are mono. There is a new Stereo VideoMicPro from Rode, but the mic in this shootout from a year ago is the original mono version of the VideoMic Pro.

• The Senn is in perfect working order. It sounds better plugged into a 3.5mm jack, than with an XLR adapter.

To learn more about audio, I suggest the Audio forum at www.dvxuser.com. There are lots of pros there to help you understand the proper way to use mics for video production. Be sure and read the stickies!

Re: Microphone comparison of mini-shotguns for DSLR video

I didn't like the way you tested those mics.
Fist the mics are to close to you. They are shot guns mics,

The real test are outside in the real world, with the wind, traffic sound, birds...

You didn't mention as one of the is a stereo (Rode!)

Something wrong with that Senn!! I listen on other site (youtube), with a very good test (in real life) with that same Sennheiser, and it is the best one I've ever heard in that category of separate mics for SLR , a lot better then Rode.

Re: NAB 2012: Blogger’s Breakfast

wow image stabilizer really sucks

Re: Microphone comparison of mini-shotguns for DSLR video

What do you mean " sound normal"?

Re: NAB 2012: Blogger’s Breakfast

Wow, you published the whole thing!

As they have with their recent upgrade to Lightroom, it seems the same with Premier. They appear to be trying to catch up with Apple's Aperture and Final Cut X's features. Otherwise, if you are a Windows user it looks like a pretty good upgrade.

Re: Canon EOS Utility Download and Install for Mac

hey man, nice one!!
